What Is Veterinary Acupuncture?
History and Technique
Acupuncture has been used for over 4000 years as one facet of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Simply stated, it is a therapy first developed by the ancient Chinese, whereby fine, sterile needles are inserted into precise anatomic locations to bring about pain relief or improvement of specific body system functions.
How It Is Used
Knowledge of veterinary anatomy and medicine is essential to the practice of veterinary acupuncture.
Veterinarians who have studied physiology and pathology, who know the course of diseases and who have accumulated clinical experience can usefully apply veterinary acupuncture in the treatment of many functional diseases, provided they have also acquired and equivalent knowledge and skill in veterinary acupuncture.
